Fascinating gameplay mechanics and style
The ability/spell choices and aesthetics are amazing. I was delightfully surprised by how fun it is to try different pairings of Transistor abilities to have different play styles suited for different positions. In some games, you have classes (e.g. rogue, mage, etc in MMOs) and you’re stuck with the play style, but here you can be anything you want. A can choose to dart around and backstab enemies, or rely on powerful pet assistants, or set up massive bombs then trigger them using low cost shots, or weaken enemies gradually via damage-over-time abilities while running around healing myself. I play on a MacBook using the built-in trackpad, and it actually works alright (tip: turn on the Instant Fire option so you can hover the cover using trackpad and press number keys to activate abilites without needing to right-click). Well worth the $20 bucks because it’s actually a game I enjoy playing for the sake of playing (not just to see the story once and beat it).
